Title: Members Accounts
Post by: Larae on February 29, 2008, 01:13:09 AM
Members,

I am not really certain as to what happened on the site. But, it appears that all of our members disappeared out of the database. I had a recent backup and restored the member base. However, it was from a few days ago. Anyone who signed up for the site after the backup of this list will have to sign back up again. I am terribly sorry folks.

This is out of pure curiosity, but how can an entire member database disappear?

Server hiccups? lol Hardware can react quite strangely at times. Glad the site is back up though...I had some pretty weird messages.

I thought that there was something wrong.  :-\ In order to login, I had to change my password to a new since my old one didn't seem to work anymore.

I was in the middle of running a repair and optimize on the database when the server decided to belly up in the midst of the process, not once, but twice. My theory is that the interruption corrupted the tables. >:(

Actually there can be many different ways this can happen.

The one Larae mentioned about running a repair and optimize function when the server decided to be weird is definately one of them.

Other reasons could be, the hosting company that has the site and database did an O/S upgrade, a web server upgrade, a database upgrade...any of which could cause a database to do weird stuff.

Server restart while the database is performing some operation can do it to.

Something else happened while the DB was doing a write, or delete action which overwrote or deleted everything..

etc...etc...etc.

This thread confirms the fact that I know so little about the inner workings of the Internet..... :(

... Actually, it was less the Internet and more a Server. Those things are scary. o.o'
