I recently heard a band name and immediately thought of this post.  Although not as eclectic and Squirrel Nut Zippers (confused Damn mental pictures)  I truly feel that Big Jesus Truck aptly fits into this category.

Great band, dumb name....The Dead Milkmen   (still on tour after all these years).

REM has played gigs under the name of Cans of Piss and Cat Butt Jr. (among other aliases)

I find the Darkness to be a very silly name, because they aren't about darkness at all.

But a really bad name is one that's local here: Girls Division

That would be kinda ok if the members were women, and they were in sports. But, nope, a bunch of nerdy boys I know are in that band.

Then again, another silly local one is Don Quiotex (sp), but I like what they play, lol.

GOO GOO DOLLS! That's what the name of the band I was going to submit was! lol

Funny thing is, they were joking around when they named their band. In an interview, the lead admitted that they didn't really think they were going to be successful and, had they known what was to come, they would have picked a cooler name.

Alabama Thunder Pussy. I always thought that was the most hilarious name for a band. When I first saw one of their music videos on some random music channel I was watching a few years back, I started laughing my head off. I thought it was a joke. But no, they're a real metal band, believe it or not. There's also this local metal band, actually not too bad, really, but I thought their name a little odd, personally. They go by Davidian.
