DE Members,
We now have a new feature with our private message system that I am excited to share with all of you!

You can now receive the full message sent to you via the site straight in your email box. No more having to login to read the message! Isn’t that great? I think it’s quite shnazzy myself.  :P Anyhow, if you would like to utilize this capability, you must enable it in your private message settings. Just follow the instructions below:

1. Go to your private message box
2. Scroll down till you see “settings” in the left hand corner
3. A new window will open in which you have four options to choose from.  If you want a copy of your private messages to be sent to you whether you are logged into the site or not, select the E-mail-notification on new messages, or if you only want a copy of your messages sent to you when you are not online, select  E-mail-notification when offline option
4. Save Change

If you do not want to receive any notifications, then you can select  the No e-mail-notification option and save change.

Agreed.

Because of people like Larae, I have not left this site!  Then again, I suppose anyone who can put up with me and not turn Darkness Embraced into a site for the "1337" is fine by me.  :::Winks.:::  Many times in the past I seen online communities turn into a strict hierarchy of the 'intelligent' elite and the have-nots.  It is good to see a place with standards, yet where everyone has equal opportunity to find their home and sense of comfort here.

I am not sure if I say it enough, but I appreciate the staff here and their efforts to make this a comfortable place!

Sincerely,
TheRadiantSeraphim

That's great; I'll change it, before going to bed, tonight.  Can't wait to try it out; thanks, Larae.

Thanks Larae. This is wonderful. I have been having a difficult time getting to DE lately because of a full schedule. You do so much for us. Thanks again. Thumbs Up!

How often are private messages cleaned out?

I've noticed, several times, that I'll have messages, and within days of receiving them, they're gone.  Same goes for the Outbox, replies I've sent are gone, and I have to figure out who I replied to, and what did I say.

When I do it from the database, it's a manual thing. I make an assessment on the impact the accumulation is having on site performance..  there really isn't any set schedule for it, it's just done when necessary. I will always make an announcement before it's done though. I usually allow a week in advance for members to back up anything that they want to save.

By default, the schedule  is:

Read messages - The number of days until read messages will automatically be erased from the inbox - 5 days

Unread messages - The number of days until messages will be erased that have not been read by their intended recipient yet - 15 days

Messages kept in trash - The number of days until messages are erased from the trashcan - 1 day

In that situation, make sure that when you respond that you have the "Send to trash" unchecked, or... you can use the "Copy to self" option which will send a copy of the pm you sent out to your email.
