Vampirism: Beyond Awakening |

There are a fair number of views of what awakening actually is. For the purposes of this piece of writing, I will give my own view of what this means as it is relevant to understanding this article. To me, awakening is recognition. It is the understanding that you are more than just an everyday human. You have discovered that there is a part of life that goes unrecognized by most and it has changed you in a significant way. This change is not just psychological, but it is all encompassing.
It is more than a desire to watch vampire movies or an attraction to the aesthetic. It is more than an aversion to sunlight, nocturnal tendencies, bloodlust, or a myriad of other typical mythological vampire characteristics. It goes beyond even the craving for blood or energy, which is the most fundamental requisite of a vampyre. The awakening process, or at least the initial moment of it, is almost a profound experience. It is, for lack of a better term, a spiritual moment.
Spirituality, for me, is that essence of what you are. Some call it an aura, others the electromagnetic field that surrounds living beings, others call it a soul, but it is that which is a part of us, but is beyond the physical. Philosophers call it the mind, though the debate of that concept still rages to this day in these circles.
Spirituality is not the same thing as religion, which is generally considered a set of rules and actions that an individual or group does to come closer to their goals. There are laws and guidelines set down to be passed on to further the religious belief as a whole. Spirituality is the part of us that makes us who we are. It is this part that demonstrates growth. It is this that makes us more than animated flesh. It is this part that awakens, not the body.
The day that I became awakened was traumatic. This does not mean that all awakenings will follow this suit or that I feel that this is typical, or a requirement of awakening. Some are gradual, some are sudden, but all, I feel, when taken into context, are decidedly significant changes spiritually. I awoke that morning feeling very different. I was not able to specifically put my finger on it, but something was not right. As my morning progressed I realized I had a heightened awareness of energy given off by living things. I could almost physically see the energy floating off my wife. I thought I was simply tired. As I drove to work, the world seemed more alive, brighter, almost as if it had somehow been enhanced. It was more vibrant. This effect has not changed since the day it happened.
I learned that the energy cycle within my own body had shifted. The attitude of others toward me changed. I had a more commanding presence. The hunger came a little later. This period changed my life and the life of my wife considerably. The point I desire to make is that, to me, awakening is akin to a kind of spiritual realignment. I do not dare say enlightenment or evolution because I am not certain these terms apply to this.
The point of spiritual realignment and the synopsis of my own awakening brings me to the actual purpose of this article. Not long ago I asked a friend of mine for a bit of inspiration. I had topics for things to write about, but nothing that grabbed my fancy. My friend said, “How is the progress of the spiritual awakening going?” This question is to be seriously considered.
The vampyre begins life at the point of awakening. This is when they realize what they are and that their view of life is irreparably altered. This new view begins the lessons that will continue throughout their existence. The base of this new life is found in the changes that occurred during awakening. So, what has occurred since that began?
As a vampyre our perception of the world is different and that difference should be nourished. We interact with our environment in a different way. We have needs that are different than others. Our sensitivity to the subtle realms lends itself to achieving possibilities that most will never know or begin to understand. However, only a small taste of this is given at the point of awakening. Many awakened vampyres will never go beyond what they find at the point of awakening.
As a service to yourself, the vampyre community, and the understanding of vampyrism in general, the process of spiritual growth should be nurtured. It is our responsibility to continually re-explore where we are, what our skills are, and our understanding of what vampyrism means to us. All of these things change over the course of our lives. If you look back and see that this does not apply to you, it means that your spiritual growth, your growth as a vampyre and possible more, has stagnated.
I have come to analyze myself in the wake of my friend’s question. It wouldn’t be fair to address the community and leave myself out of the equation. I have learned that many aspects of my own growth has been stunted in recent months. My awakening changed a great many things. I have explored several different aspects of my nature in the time following, but recently, I have neglected them in favor of politics, exploring houses, chatting, participating in a lot of activity that predominantly will not lead to any greater understanding of my spirituality, my vampyric nature. I am guilty of that about which I write. I am no further along in my understanding of the history and nature of vampyrism. I am not furthering my understanding of any of the subtle skills associated with my vampyrism. I am not affecting the community in a positive way through this neglect.
It is a difficult thing to be introspective at times. However, I feel that we all need to do this periodically. In order to become greater than we are now, deeper, stable, more powerful, the spiritual growth process should never end. This is reflected in this comment by Anais Nin, “Life is a process of becoming, a combination of states we have to go through. Where people fail is that they wish to elect a state and remain in it. This is a kind of death.”
