Introduction to Darkness Embraced Vampire and Occult Society

The Community

The Darkness Embraced Vampire and Occult Society is a diverse community comprised of vampires (aka vampyres), occult practitioners,  paranormal investigators, spiritualists, myth and lore enthusiasts, and curious seekers. We have all come together under one umbrella to further our understanding, not only in practices of the esoteric, but of each other. We look to each other for shared support, knowledge, and spiritual growth as a collective whole. As a result, many of us have developed strong ties that bind very much like those of a close knit family. Darkness Embraced is indeed a place that many of us have come to call "home".

 The History

Darkness Embraced officially came into existence in July of 2001 as a sub-hosted site. Darkness Embraced was a derivative from it's former predecesor under another pseudonym. In December of 2002, the darkness-embraced.com domain was purchased. It was at this time that Darkness Embraced was reincarnated into a portal/community site and has thus, remained. Recently, we obtained darknessembraced.com and decided to shift to the new domain name in March of 2007.

The Founder

Larae - Founder of Darkness Embraced

Many years ago when I was making the decision to expand my site to what it is today, I wanted to make it something I could watch grow and become what I would have wanted to find for myself when I was new and searching. Over the years when I would seek to find those like myself online, or information about what was going on with me I was faced with the sad prospects of the few sites out there that were available.

The majority were sites of fantasy, role playing, all sorts of sexual proclivities and not much real information. My heart sank and I became turned off on the idea of finding anyone that was truly like me. I found the Vampire Church and read a few of Damien Daville’s articles and felt as if I’d found an oasis in the desert. Here was someone that was speaking what I felt. Telling my story. I didn’t feel so alone or that I was the only one like me out there. I realized that there might be vampires out there that might be seeking too. Weeding through all the BS and Myth out there, looking for a sanctuary in the chaos to make home and feel safe to be whom and what they were, to ask questions, and learn and teach and be free. To celebrate who they were and grow towards what they wanted to be, together.

I began learning coding techniques and furthering my technical education as I built what we have today. This was another goal of mine that I wanted to learn.

My desire is to support other sites that share this vision and help to create a community and sister communities along with our own site so that those that come looking for answers will get real information, real experience and not just prettied up fables and the ‘more vampire than thou’ attitudes that a lot of us have had to deal with.

But the site without the spirit is just a site. The spirit comes from those that come here and ask questions, and inspire each other and grow and experience all there is to realize in any path that they follow. Our members are the life blood and should find Darkness Embraced to be a place they can be  Witch, Pagan, Vampire or Vampyre, Donor, Spiritualist, Paranormal Researcher, or just a seeker wanting to separate myth from reality. They should always feel welcome and accepted, even if some of the things they post about seem off the track. We should try to steer them back onto the reality of what they are asking if only so others watching the thread can be educated.
