how to be a vampire

I was at Barnes and Nobel with carpenoctum777 last night when she stumbled upon a book called "How to be a vampire" by Amy Gray, after reading a few pages and flipping through it, I couldn't help but get..disgusted with what was written. It was saying that to become a vampire you must have your blood sucked and so on. It also went on saying how to dress like one, how to eat like one and such. I'm more worried for who ever goes on believing this, and possibly getting hurt.
I find the book ridiculous, anyone else???

Now I have to see this book, I haven't heard of it before and that sounds pretty bad. Maybe I have to see it for myself for it to really sink in, but it's bad enough with the things that happen with people lately on the subject! Interesting.

Publishers will print all sorts of ridiculousness that has the label vampire on it as a means to a sale windfall and this includes the folly and foolishness of so-called serious works. The old saying goes, "remain skeptical of anything you see in print, for the chances are that 90% of it is bogus." I see nothing in any of today's texts to off-set that opinion. I ran out of any respect for the publishing world in this venue a long time ago for the same reason, not singularly connected with this community but as a result of much of the rampant behavior from those in that arena.

Fantasy abounds. Common sense is rare. Irresponsibility is replete, and amongst it all, are those who decide to stay out of the fray of such ludicrousness. It all looks good on some television episode.

It's called pandering to the market.
Apparently it's all the rage these days to be one... haven't ya heard?
The fact is, there are going to be a lot of young folks out there that will come across that book in
their local book store and take it as, ahem, gospel.
That's why places like this exist... well, at least that's why this place exists...
to hopefully dispel any rumours, silliness, misinformation, etc., etc.
And with any luck, any of the "newly born, newly awakened", whichever (don't buy into made up phrases, that may be the first thing to learn) will come by here and get a little correct info.

That being said, I'm going to stumble back into my library and get back to work...

Many of my greatest fears have centered on those wise words. I'm obviously in full agreement on the latter my friend. 8-)

Those books are there for one reason, money. Although I will take nothing away from any author. I am reading some books now and I will not disclose the author or the book. One simple word "bogus". Personal experience is the best teacher, there will not be any other, nor could there ever be a book written about vampirism that encompasses the whole.

It was saying that to become a vampire you must have your blood sucked and so on. It also went on saying how to dress like one, how to eat like one and such.

Are you sure this wasn't intended as a humor book? It sure sounds like one. I can't imagine anyone in their right mind could possibly take it seriously. I have several books in my library that sound like this one, but they are written by humorists and intended as such (I like the anecdote in one of them about filing overly long teeth that might get chipped).

Much like Heyoka noted, it is my hope that a person who might be interested in pursuing their inclinations of vampyrism might come across a site such as this one and learn what it truly means rather than believing in such drivel as How to be a Vampire.

Ms. Amy Gray is doing a terrible disservice to our community.

well I read on a few sites and it said that she was "Amy Gray is a writer, photographer, and amateur vampirologist who has been fascinated with vampires, spooky art and literature, and the supernatural since early childhood."
I think that if shes so in love with the subject, she wouldn't make it humorous, but also than again I'm not her, I don't know what her intentions were.
But I'm more afraid for the kids/teenagers that might take it seriously.

Well, if that isn't at least 90% of the people on any given website devoted to the vampire myth and all that goes with it, I don't know what is.
How wonderfully run-of-the-mill Miss Amy is.

Let's just drop the discussion, thereby no longer contributing any energy, positive or negative toward Miss Amy's book.
Perhaps then it, and all the books like it will just.... go.... away.

Agreed. Going to see if I can find the Hatian from "Heroes" right now...
